How to stabilize bottle shape after mold change on a blow molder in a bottled water production line?

Bottle shape instability after a mold change on a blow molder typically occurs when the new mold is not properly aligned with the bottle design specifications, or when air pressure, temperature, and cycle timing are not recalibrated for the new bottle geometry. At Chuxin Mingwei, this issue commonly arises during transitions between 5 L, 11.3 L, and 18.9 L bottle formats on our fully automatic bottled water filling lines, where even minor deviations in wall thickness or base stability can cause deformation or collapse during high-speed operation. To resolve this, first verify that the new mold matches the exact bottle dimensions—neck finish, base diameter, and height—provided in your original equipment specification sheet. Second, confirm that the preform temperature profile and blow air pressure settings have been adjusted per the mold’s thermal requirements; inconsistent preform heating is a leading cause of uneven wall distribution. Third, conduct a low-speed validation run (≤50% of rated output) to observe bottle formation under real-time conditions, checking for dimpling, warping, or base deformation. Our engineering team recommends using the PLC-based control system on Chuxin Mingwei’s blow molding units to log and compare pressure curves and cycle times between stable and unstable runs. If shape instability persists, inspect the air distribution manifold and nozzle alignment—misalignment can cause localized over-stretching. Note that mold changes must be performed only with factory-approved tooling; third-party molds may not meet the dimensional tolerances required for compatibility with downstream filling and capping equipment.
